When does a trend officially move into “this is just the way we do things now” territory? For cloud computing, it’s when even the naysayers—and there were certainly plenty of them—finally embrace this fundamental shift in how companies build, deploy, and manage applications and the infrastructure that supports them.

We’re barreling toward that point. Last summer, Gartner predicted that “by 2020, a corporate ‘no-cloud’ policy will be as rare as a ‘no-internet’ policy is today.” Does that mean every company will move all of its workloads to the cloud? No, nor should it, at least not right away. But the cloud is far more than a fad for the cloud-native startups that populate Silicon Valley—it’s increasingly the way things get done in the world of modern software.

But the cloud is constantly growing and evolving, one that requires you to pay attention if you want to keep up with the latest news, trends, and techniques. There are plenty of ways to do that, but one of the best is to keep tabs on some of the folks that have been driving the cloud bandwagon. Luckily, you don’t need direct lines to cloud luminaries to find out what’s on their minds; you simply need to follow them online. To get you started, we’ve rounded up a list of smart cloud-minded folks worth keeping tabs on.
