Making a Good Thing Even Better: Announcing New Relic for iPhone v2.0

It’s been a few months since we released v1.0 of our New Relic for iPhone app and your feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. After all, there’s nothing like being able to monitor the performance of your apps regardless of where you are.

But we believe you can never have too much of a good thing. So, we’ve been hard at work making v2.0 of the app even better. Today we’re excited to announce that the new and improved version is now available on the App Store.

What’s New for v2.0
There’s a lot yummy goodness in this new version. The first things you’ll probably notice are the UI changes. We’ve spent a lot of time improving the navigation and the way your data loads.

Here’s a full list of everything that’s changed:

Infinite Scroll for Charts
Some of the biggest changes are in the app’s charts. You can now horizontally (and infinitely) scroll through the charts to view your past data easily. (We know you can never get enough!)

Let’s say you’re currently looking at the last 30 minutes of data and you want to look at the past hour. Simply scroll to the left and watch your data get added to the chart. Need even more data? Continue scrolling and you’ll see information for as far back as you want to go.

Another cool feature we’ve added is auto-scaling. When you’re scrolling through the chart, it will auto-scale itself to let you see all the data correctly in one simple chart.

Hide Unwanted Metrics
When you’re looking at the charts, you may see information you don’t care about right now. Tap the corresponding legend button and the data disappears. Tap it again and the data returns. Isn’t that cool?

Data, And More Data
Thanks to the new design of the Application Details view, we’re able to display more information. You’ll notice that the value boxes in the Details view have a chart in the background.

By tapping on the cell, you can see the corresponding chart and its value. The background is a real dynamic chart. It allows you to immediately see how the value evolved during a given timeframe.

Traced Error Details View
In v2, we’ve added the ability to see details about a traced error. You’ll be able to see information such as when it occurred, which stack was traced, parameters and more. You’ll also be able to share this error with your colleagues with just one tap!

Improved Readability

We received a lot of feedback that helped us improve the readability of the application. With v2.0 you’ll notice that the text is bigger, the colors are less muted and the focus is on the most important information. Everything about the new design was created to make your life easier, and allow you to access your data faster.

Performance Improvements
With v2.0, we’ve made multiple performance improvements to the time it takes to display your app’s data and charts. And this version is faster and more responsive. (Yes, we use our own New Relic for Mobile Apps)
