Introducing New Relic for iPhone

Have you ever been out to dinner or at the movies when all of sudden your fun is interrupted by a phone call or text telling you your website is down?

Anyone who’s ever worked as a developer, network operator or anywhere in between knows this scenario all too often. Usually, the alerts are quite cryptic. Meaning you’ll need to run to the nearest laptop to see if there really is a problem and, if so, which part of the system is malfunctioning and who you need to contact for help getting it back online.

At New Relic, we want to make your life more enjoyable, even when you’re on the go. That’s why today we’re announcing the New Relic for iPhone app (now available on the App Store), a new way to interact with New Relic right from your phone using a native application.

RPM UI on iPhone 5

We built this app from the ground up, tailoring it for those on the go who need to quickly understand how their applications, servers and key transactions are behaving. With the official New Relic iPhone app you get:

* Real time and historical visibility into:

* Application performance
* Real user performance (RUM)
* Server resource utilization (CPU, memory, disk, and network)

* End user satisfaction ratings (Apdex)
* Easy access to your Key Transactions’ performance
* Event notifications (deployments, notes, etc.)
* Application error reporting

In addition to providing the same at-a-glance usability you enjoy with your New Relic desktop experience, we’re also introducing a whole new way to be alerted: iPhone push notifications!

Acknowledge alerts

This means in addition to email or any of our awesome integration partners, such as PagerDuty and HipChat, you can now also choose to receive alerts directly on your iPhone via push notifications. And, when one of your colleagues acknowledges that alert, you’ll also receive a notification that they’re on the case. (Letting you go back to your dinner or movie.)

We’ve got a lot more planned for the app throughout the year. (This is our first release after all.) And of course, we aren’t forgetting about Android users – we hope to announce something soon. In the meantime, check out this video and let us know what you think of the app.

To use the New Relic iPhone app, you need a New Relic account. Setup your free account today to access performance data wherever you are. And don’t forget to deploy the agent to your app before you start using the iPhone app. For more information on how to set up your account or on how to use the app, go here.

Note: If you typically access New Relic through one of our partner’s websites directly, you can log in to the New Relic iPhone app using the same email address you use to access our partner’s website. On your first login, New Relic will send you an email with instructions for authenticating your account with your iPhone. Open the email on your iOS device, authenticate your email address, and then you can start using the New Relic iPhone app.'
