The team behind New Relic Insights has been staying busy, releasing a bunch of cool new features designed to help our customers get even more out of their usage of the product. Key examples include Add-to-Insights and the all-new Metric Explorer, a Timepicker for changing the time range of Insights dashboards, and the ability to copy dashboards within your Insights account.
But we’re not stopping there! Today, we’re announcing a number of additional improvements that we believe enhance the range of potential use cases for these recently released features, making it easier to manage your dashboards and Data Apps:
The brand-new timepicker that we released for Insights dashboards is now present on our Metric Explorer and Event Explorer, and it can also be used to edit metric widgets. This means that Insights customers can now specify custom time ranges (from 11:11 a.m. on 12/20/2016 to 11:11 a.m. on 12/29/2016, for example) as well as rolling time ranges (since 30 minutes ago, for example) for any chart in Insights. This last bit is super useful for customers who want to add a chart from New Relic APM to Insights and then modify its time window on the dashboard to see a wider range of data or better understand the context of a performance issue.
Data Apps now support Timepicker, Copy, and Metric Charts
Data Apps allow you to combine and link together collections of dashboards to tell a story around a single theme. For example, you could create several dashboards: one for application performance across all your applications, another for performance across your users, and another that looks at specific transaction-level performance. These dashboards could be linked into a single Data App that can be filtered against one another to tell a story about how performance is impacting your business. You can then share this collection with other stakeholders in your organization so everyone is on the same page. This is just one of many ways in which Insights helps you to run your digital business using the data automatically collected from New Relic agents. With that in mind, we’ve invested work in Data Apps to make them compatible with the new features we released recently. The Timepicker will now work on dashboards that have been added to a Data App, as will Copy. This means that customers can copy a dashboard out of a Data App into their account so that others on their team can use it. Customers can also copy dashboards that contain metric charts to their Data Apps.
These new features provide even more flexibility for our customers over the analyses and visualizations they can realize within Insights, ranging from how dashboards are created to how time ranges are set on charts to how Insights scales within your organization.
We hope these improvements make New Relic Insights even more valuable for you. And we’ve got a lot more good stuff for Insights coming down the pike soon, so stay tuned!
