IDC, a leading market intelligence and technology advisory firm, recently published an IDC Insight research paper titled “Application Management in the Cloud – New Relic Turns a Traditional Model on Its Ear“. Rona Shucat, Director of Application Development, Testing, and Management Services at IDC, authored this paper. As you know, New Relic is the leading provider of SaaS-based application performance management (APM) tools and services. So, to have an expert like Rona validate the importance of SaaS on the application management market is well, just plain awesome!
Rona summarizes that “small, medium-sized, and large enterprise customers are increasingly gravitating toward the use of SaaS-based application management (AM) solutions to monitor and tune their web applications running in private, hybrid, or public cloud environments.” Rona explores the benefits that SaaS offerings bring to large enterprises who are accustom to making hefty investments in on-premise application management tools. She also discovers that SaaS extends the benefits of application management tools to smaller organizations who historically haven’t had the budget or expertise to implement these earlier generation app management tools.
But hey, what am I doing rewriting her report in this blog post? Go read it for yourself – Rona does a much better job – trust me!
After you read the report, I’d love to hear your thoughts and comments. Do you see SaaS application management tools fitting into your organization? What benefits do you see? Are there any hurdles to adopting SaaS?
