Would you believe that 90% of the time people spend on their smartphones is spent using apps? Yes, you probably would. That’s because, as Devin Cheevers put it at FutureStack 16 San Francisco, “native apps are eating the world.”
Devin, who works in mobile product marketing at New Relic, gave a stark warning in his talk, “Thinking About the Full Stack to Create Great Mobile Experiences,” co-presented with New Relic Mobile Product Manager Susie Dirks. “If you don’t get your app strategy right, you’re going to lose the digital war,” said Devin.
Yet the challenges of delivering world-class native apps are many: discovery, retention (90% of users give up on an app within 30 days), intense competition, sky-high expectations, complexity, a scarcity of IoS and Android developers … the list goes on.
