Announcing New Relic RPM Version 2 with enhanced UI, support for Java, hourly billing option and more

A Message from New Relic Founder and CEO Lew Cirne

Today I am very pleased to announce the general availability of New Relic RPM V2. Before I share highlights of some of the great new functionality and enhancements, I want to extend my sincere thanks to the many hundreds of you who participated in the beta. Without your valuable contribution, we wouldn’t be releasing today what I think is the best performance management tool on the market.

New Relic RPM_101609Our intent with Version 2 of RPM has been to make the product more intuitive, to broaden its appeal to IT ops and business stakeholders, and to improve our support for larger production environments. I think V2 admirably accomplishes those goals.

Starting with the UI, we included a number of improvements that make RPM much more solution-oriented as you monitor and troubleshoot application performance. The same great data is available in the product but its now presented in a way that reflects a real-world workflow, with each screen leading naturally to the next as you investigate and begin to answer questions about your application’s performance. In short, RPM is easier to use and it does a better job of anticipating where you’ll need to go next to solve problems. I invite RPM customers to learn more more about these UI improvements at our web site.

We’ve also included an at-a-glance performance overview of all your applications, including response time, throughput, customer experience and more. This can be used by IT ops, application owners, or dev managers to get up-to-date reports on application health.  All the reporting–capacity planning, scalability, SLAs, deployments–is now combined in one optimization center. Now you’ve got a single place where you can leverage your applications’ performance data to plan for the future.

With V2, we are introducing support for Java application management. With this capability, RPM becomes the first cross-platform, SaaS-based app management tool to provide 24×7 monitoring and deep diagnostics for Java, Ruby, and JRuby in a single UI. We now support all the major app servers such as WebSphere, WebLogic, JBoss, Tomcat, Jetty and Glassfish and frameworks such as Spring, Rails, Grails, and JEE.

Another important innovation that we are introducing with V2 is a new On-Demand Billing Plan. To date, we are managing more than 700 applications in public or private clouds. In these highly elastic environments where there is high variability, choosing management for a fixed number of hosts can mean either you over estimate and buy more than you need, or you underestimate, go without management, and keep your fingers crossed. With our new On-Demand Billing Plan, you don’t have to worry. You pay only for what you use. If you need more performance management during peak traffic, you’ve got it. If you need less, no problem.

These are just a few highlights of the product. To really get a sense of what’s possible with RPM, I invite you to sign up, if you haven’t already, and use the product for yourself. We think you’ll like what you see. Again, many thanks to those of you who have been using V2 beta for your inestimable contribution to the product. And for those of you who are about to join the New Relic RPM family, we thank you and we look forward to serving you.
