Releasing Our First Agent SDK in Beta

We are very excited to announce the first beta release of New Relic’s Agent SDK.

New Relic offers support for many of the popular languages in use today, including Ruby, Python, Java, .NET, PHP, and Node.js. However, we know some of you are looking for insights into web applications written in a variety of other languages.

Our existing agents give you visibility into the performance of your app all the way down to the line of code. Instrumentation is done automatically for you. With the SDK, you decide how you want to instrument your app and the SDK figures out how to package and send metrics to New Relic. This gives you a way to get New Relic for your app no matter what language you use.

What can you do with the Agent SDK?

The SDK provides web transaction support, giving you visibility into your app’s response time and throughput. While you can’t get detailed transaction traces yet, you can get an idea of how your app is performing for your users.

Here’s an example of what you might see when you use the SDK to report web transaction metrics from your app.

What’s next?

We are just getting started and will add more functionality in the near future. Our goal is to give you the same kind of visibility into the performance of your apps as you get with other agents. All it takes is a little elbow grease and your feedback as we add more features to the SDK. Getting started early will allow you to have a greater say in what features we add next.
