Many of you have been using our PHP agent since it became available a few months ago via our beta program. We’ve gotten some great feedback, made a few adjustments, and ba-da-bing, now we’re pleased to inform you that the PHP agent is Generally Available. [We actually put the GA candidate out last week 🙂 and it’s taken marking this long to catch up!] We rarely congratulate ourselves, but special mention goes out to the unflappable core team of developers and test engineers here who have dedicated themselves to this project for the past 6 months. Great job team!
The agent lets you monitor overall application response time and throughput including memcache, database and external services. Then you can go deeper into individual web transactions and database calls to MySQL, PostgresSQL, and any PDO-supported database all the way down to SQL statements. The PHP agent supports leading apps and frameworks like WordPress, Drupal and Zend. In fact, Dries Buytaert, CTO of Acquia and co-founder and creator and project lead for the Drupal open source project, has been using it and commented today “As more and more organizations choose Drupal to manage their dynamic web applications, gaining visibility into PHP application performance in production is critical. New Relic RPM enables site admins to see inside their Drupal instance while in production, at the transaction level, to spot and fix potential issues before they lead to site performance problems.”
IGN, the leading online portal for the gaming enthusiasts, is using the RPM to monitor apps in multiple languages including PHP. Tony Ford, director of engineering at IGN said “More than 42 million gamers rely on IGN.com for connecting with friends, interactive gameplay, and up-to-date information on the latest video games. For our audience it’s critical that we have the right tools in place to ensure world-class application responsiveness. New Relic RPM is a key part of our infrastructure because it gives us unparalleled insight into the health and performance of our applications across multiple development languages and platforms in a consistent, easy to use console.”
We’ve also teamed with an impressive list of managed platform vendors who also support PHP and we announced those partnerships separately today. The list includes Blue Box Group, cloudControl, Joyent, Morphlabs, Network Redux, and PHP Fog. Many of these are bundling RPM Bronze and offering fantastic deals on upgrades. If you are a customer of one of these, be sure to check with your vendor representative.
