Ezra Zygmuntowicz: In Memoriam

Last Wednesday, November 26th, Ezra Zygmuntowicz passed away after a long illness.

A founder of the Rails hosting company Engine Yard and original developer of the popular Web framework Merb, Ezra was one of the very first people to see my @newrelic prototype and champion the New Relic cause. He was a true visionary and we will miss him very much.

In the days since Ezra’s passing, laudatory comments have flowed into Hacker News, as friends and co-workers remember his contributions and sharing on various projects and causes. Engine Yard has posted a memorial, and there is also a Confreaks page dedicated to him.

According to Ezra’s brother Eli, there will be a memorial service and burial for Ezra in Portland at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, December 3, at River View Cemetery, Adams Chapel, 0300 SW Taylors Ferry Road, Portland, OR 97219.

The family is also setting up a memorial trust fund for Ezra’s son Ryland. For more information, you can email Eli at eliziggy@hotmail.com.
