At New Relic, we’re madly in love with building great products. We’re equally proud that these products are built at our Intergalactic Engineering Headquarters in Portland, Oregon.

Lew Cirne accepts the award.

Portland is an essential ingredient in New Relic’s special sauce. We’ve been building products here since the company’s earliest days. We have thrived amidst PDX’s unique community of artists, coders, innovators, and creators. That’s a big reason why we are so thrilled that last night at the Oregon Technology Awards, New Relic walked away with the award for “Influential Technology Company Not Headquartered in Oregon!”

One amazing night, nine terrific years

It was a very special night. Our very own Lew Cirne was invited to give the keynote address and sat down for a great fireside chat interview with the Technology Association of Oregon‘s Skip Newberry. Lew and Skip talked about New Relic’s earliest days and discussed how the quality of people and community in Portland made it the clear choice to be the company’s R&D headquarters. I was lucky to be a part of those early days at New Relic and it’s amazing to look at the team and business that we’ve built over the past nine years.

Portland Relics are especially proud of our people and products. We are thrilled that hundreds of talented people have chosen to join our Portland team to take on great challenges and do the best work of their careers.

A strong community

The community and culture we have created here is inimitable. From our FutureTalks speaker series (now with more than 3,000 meetup group members), held in our amazing “Lovelace” gathering area, to weekly demo days with the product team and our annual product offsite event, to food-cart runs and DataNerds4Good days spent volunteering out of the office, New Relic Portland is a very special place. Add the beautiful backdrop of Mt. Hood (as seen out the windows of our offices), ample running trails, an avid cycling culture, and passion for artisan food and beverages and it’s no wonder we’re so happy to call this city home.

We often have customers ask us if they can come spend a few days with our team in Portland to soak up best practices for things like DevOps and go deeper on how to leverage the New Relic Digital Intelligence Platform. We love these opportunities to connect with customers and show them what we love to do. But I usually warn them (sometimes over a ¿Por Qué No? taco or a Blue Star doughnut) that they might never want to leave this place.

Our Portland team gathers at our annual offsite.

A big congrats to our Portland team on this well-deserved award. Did I mention we’re hiring?
