29 September 2009 at 9:35 am | In Cloud Computing, Hosting, News, Partners, RPM in the News, Rails | Leave a CommentToday we announced that SpeedyRails has integrated New Relic RPM into its Control Panel. This means that SpeedyRails customers can now immediately implement RPM to monitor apps deployed on the SpeedyRails service. SpeedyRails offers a range of fully-managed hosting services that make it easy for customers to deploy their Rails apps. With RPM now available through the SpeedyRails Control Panel, customers can proactively troubleshoot and tune their apps for optimal performance.
SpeedyRails co-founder and CEO Maykel Rodriguez said today that “As more and more customers choose SpeedyRails’ hosting services, it’s important that we help them be successful at every stage of their deployment. Our partnership with New Relic and the integration of RPM with our control panel will make it easier for our customers to ensure their production applications are meeting performance and business objectives.”
Taking advantage of the integration is simple. SpeedyRails customers can create a new RPM Lite account in the SpeedyRails Control panel, implement their license key, and get immediate access to RPM application performance data. Tighter integration will be available soon with one-click activation and monitoring.
Performance Monitoring for Cloud Hosted Applications – Time for a Clean Sheet of Paper

In an article published the other day on the very informative site called The Virtualization Practice, tech analyst Bernd Harzog analyzes the factors that make managing Cloud-based applications so challenging for both customers and their performance monitoring vendors. Because of the virtualized nature of Cloud infrastructures, traditional application performance tools either do not work, require days or weeks of set up time, or are unable to aggregate performance across multiple instances correctly.’
Bernd calls for a fundamentally new approach to app management and cites New Relic as the one vendor who gets it. To this we say “Thank you, Bernd.” And our nearly 700 Cloud customers say “Yep, we knew it all along. That’s why we chose New Relic.” Check out Mr. Harzog’s comments on The Virtualization Practice. You will also find a wealth of information there about Cloud, virtualization, and performance management.

Today we are pleased to announce the public beta of New Relic RPM Version 2. We are very excited about this next generation of RPM and we think you’ll like it as well.
With Version 2, we focused on two priorities: Make RPM easier to use and support Java applications. RPM Version 2 offers an easy-to-use interface, allowing you to continuously monitor your app, spot trouble, and then drill down to the source of the problem intuitively and efficiently. We also put all the tools for longer term planning in one place—your starting point for proactively optimizing app performance. And with V2, you get the same comprehensive set of app management capabilities for your critical Java applications that have been adopted by the Rails community over the last year and half.
I invite you to take RPM V2 for a spin. After you spend some time with it, I think you’ll find that the new interface will help you will learn even more about your applications.
We have placed a “Feedback” tab in the top right section of our V2 pages. Please don’t be shy about sharing your thoughts! Thanks, and we look forward to hearing from you!
–Lew Cirne, New Relic Founder and CEO
