You’re So Money

New Relic announced last week the creation of an Affiliate Program. It is designed for companies, individuals or user groups in the Rails community who want to recommend New Relic RPM to their clients and members.
The program works this way: If you have relationships with individuals or organizations deploying Rails applications, you can recommend that they sign up for RPM. When they do, New Relic attaches your Affiliate code to the customer. If they become a paying subscriber, the Affiliate gets paid a portion of the subscription fees in cash after a few months. The affiliate may elect to rebate the referral fee back to the end customer or keep it for themselves. For example, if a user group wants to join the program (like the Utah Ruby User Group) they can provide a service to their members by rebating the cost of their RPM subscription which acts as a discount.
In addition to cash referral fees, affiliates can also get free use of RPM Gold for 30 days to make improvements in their own Rails apps.
Its a terrific way to help your clients, friends and group members. To learn more, send an email to affiliates@newrelic.com.
New RPM Agent Available 2.7.1
25 November 2008 at 5:50 pm | In Product Update, Support | Leave a CommentAvailable Immediately
We are pleased to announce that we have released an upgrade to RPM that you can use immediately. RPM Version 2.7.1 includes performance enhancements, several upgrades, and some bug fixes. ALL RPM customers are licensed to receive the upgrade. We recommend that you upgrade your RPM agent as soon as possible. The upgrade will require an application restart for all of your deployed agents so take that into consideration when you plan your upgrade.
The upgrade instructions can be found at: http://sites.google.com/a/newrelic.com/rpm-docs/installing-the-agent in the section “Updating to the Latest Agent.”
The highlights for 2.7.1 are:
- Significant performance optimizations.
- Show stack traces for long segments of transaction traces.
- Support Postgres EXPLAIN in transaction traces.
- Support for naming multiple Passenger applications on a single host.
- Show more information about view exceptions.
- Several bug fixes.
If you need support, use our GetSatisfaction forum.
At New Relic, we take Rails performance seriously. We also take customer support seriously. Hope you enjoy the new version.
Sincerely
The New Relic Dev Team

New Relic Progress
12 November 2008 at 11:25 pm | In News | Leave a CommentSometimes people ask us what the letters in RPM stand for. On most days, our answer is simple: Rails Performance Management. But today we are considering having the “M” stand for Momentum! Our company is growing by leaps and bounds!
There have been an amazing set of accomplishments since New Relic announced its entry into the Rails market just a few short months ago (May 2008). Today we released an announcement showing the surge in growth at New Relic, and recapping some of the highlights of the last few months. Take a look and I think you’ll see what we mean…

- More than 850 customers now use RPM to manage their production Rails applications

- The Rails Core Development Team, the group of Rails developers who lead the changes to the Rails platform, partnered with New Relic and RPM customers to share performance data. More than 100 RPM customers have joined the program
- Pivotal Labs, the premier Agile Ruby on Rails application development company, agreed to make using RPM a standard practice for its clients’ application development processes.
We’ve also improved our product, adding more features and functionality including these snazy additions:

There is a lot going on here at New Relic and we thought we’d bring you up to speed on some of the recent news:
New Relic Secures $6.0 Million in New Investment Financing
Raising money is never easy, especially in what amounts at best to a “rocky” macro-economic environment. This funding is a tribute to our customers and partners who have proven that New Relic is the leading provider of Ruby on Rails application performance management solutions.
The funding was led by Trinity Ventures, with Benchmark Capital also participating. Benchmark Capital had invested in New Relic’s initial funding announced in May 2008.
In addition, we are happy to announce that Peter Fenton, of Benchmark Capital has been elected Chairman of New Relic’s Board of Directors. Also, Dan Scholnick, of Trinity Ventures has been elected to the Board of Directors.
